Challenge Family Americas welcomes Dr Andy Baldwin as ambassador

Posted on: Thursday 9th April 2015

Challenge Family Americas extends a warm welcome to Dr. Andrew Baldwin, a U.S. Navy Family Physician, accomplished humanitarian and well-known media personality. Baldwin will serve as an ambassador for the brand and compete in several Challenge Family Americas races including Challenge Knoxville, Challenge Williamsburg and Challenge Atlantic City, as well as the Challenge Family series’ flagship event, Challenge Roth.

“I can’t wait to experience the Challenge Family events first-hand,” said Baldwin. “Challenge Roth has long been on my bucket list since learning the lore and legends behind the race, and now with Challenge Family’s greatly expanded presence in the U.S. I can race a number of the events close to home as well.”

Baldwin’s first foray into the public spotlight was as the star of the 2007 hit ABC show “The Bachelor: An Officer And A Gentleman.” In the years since, Baldwin has transitioned from reality television heartthrob to empowered humanitarian, all while serving his country as a Global Health Leader in the United States Navy. An avid triathlete since discovering the sport as a member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training, Baldwin has earned nine Full distance triathlon finishes and has logged countless hours training while on board a Navy ship on deployment. Baldwin’s interest in Challenge Family was sparked by the brand’s reputation for producing top quality events focused on the athlete experience and the company’s commitment to giving back to the community.

“I’ve heard so many great things about Challenge Family and I’m especially inspired by their vision for creating inclusive, fun, family-friendly events. Not only does that satisfy my own desire for a more personal race experience–the way triathlon should be–it also aligns perfectly with the health and wellness initiatives that I champion to inspire others to get up and get active. Challenge Family offers a race distance or division for everyone–relay teams, kids’ races and aquabike events in addition to individual triathlons–so the barriers to entry are removed.”

Baldwin’s humanitarian efforts and health initiatives span the globe, from Laos to Kenya to Washington D.C., his every effort driven by the four-word credo engrained by his parents: How can I help? Baldwin founded Got Your Back Network, an organization that assists family members of fallen U.S. military men and women. He serves as an advocate for the First Lady’s Let’s Move! campaign and previously assisted the U.S. Surgeon General with the Healthy Youth For A Healthy Futureinitiative. Baldwin joined a World Vision mission to Kenya to create clean water solutions, was honored as one of Outside Magazine’s Top 100 Influential People of the World for his treatment of 600 Laotians in remote villages lacking basic medical care and was named to Washington D.C.’s Most Influential People Under 40 list.

Through his triathlon and running competitions, Baldwin is a proud proponent of Team RWB, the Official Charity Partner of Challenge Family Americas in the United States, working to enrich the lives of America’s veterans through sport. His participation at Challenge Atlantic City will be as part of a Team RWB relay to raise awareness for the cause. Baldwin is also a member of Team Every Man Jack, arguably the best-groomed group of men in triathlon due to the team’s title sponsor, men’s bath and body product brand Every Man Jack.

“Andy is the real deal–a humanitarian and health care provider who serves his country and the world at large with generosity of heart and an indomitable spirit, lending a caring hand to U.S. veterans and delivering critical medical care to those in need around the world. He’s also a talented triathlete, eager to share his passion for sport with others in the interest of promoting healthy lifestyle choices,” said Charlie Patten, Challenge Family Americas board member. “We’re thrilled to welcome him aboard as a Challenge Family Americas ambassador and we look forward to working together to share the message of health and fitness.”
