The former professional swimmer turned to triathlon in 2004 after an encounter with an old swimming coach coaxed him to a triathlon camp. He swam, biked and ran himself into the ground for a week but was hooked. Juggling a university degree and a triathlon apprenticeship braced Dylan for the tough school of triathlon, but has served him well. Disheartened with his results racing the shorter distance he was set to return to a ‘real job’ but wanted a farewell stint at his hometown race at Challenge Wanaka in 2013.
Remarkably he won the race on debut over the full distance over seasoned competitors. He is unbeaten at Wanaka for the past 3 years.
