Birthplace: New Zealand

Representing: New Zealand

Started in triathlon: 2005

Professional since: 2007

Trains: Wanaka, New Zealand

Gina swam at a national level for NZ until 17; taking a break from all sport she found triathlon in 2005 as a good way to keep fit. In 2006 she left her job as a mathematics teacher to pursue the sport as a professional. She got fifth in her first Iron distance race in New Zealand, then headed to Europe for a few months to gain some experience. On her way home she stopped off in the USA and one the first of many Iron distances races.

Here’s that math on that: In 2015 she has finished 34 Iron distance races in just over 7 seasons of racing. That includes 13 wins, 9-second places, and two third places (in big German races Roth and Frankfurt). 24 Iron distance races out of 34 on the podium. Of the remaining 10 races, 4 have been top 10 finishes at Kona and the other 6 are 4th and 5th places.
