A late bloomer to triathlon Symonds has not let that affect his steady rise in the sport and claiming some of the biggest tittles in the past two years.

Prior to triathlon he ran track and steeplechase for the University of British Columbia where he obtained a Marketing degree, while growing up it was hockey and basketball.

Steady results from 2009 ensured with his breakthrough performance in 2011 at 70.3 Worlds grabbing third place, the first Canadian to podium there.

He grabbed a fourth at his first attempt over the full distance and has only improved, twice won his hometown race in Penticton and in 2015 claimed the Asia Pacific Championship title.
