This carpenter-turned-triathlete built his career on a foundation as a youth swimmer. Within a year of entering the sport, he was already on the Danish national team and participated in the junior world championships. He took his first title in 2011 at home race Challenge Aarhus, which he described as a victory straight out of a fairy tale. After scoring the national championship in 2012, he announced himself on the international scene the following year by becoming the ITU Long-Distance Triathlon World Champion, and ended his year with the title at the inaugural Challenge Laguna Phuket.
